John Swales: First Canadian World’s Greatest Horseman
It is with great pride that we announce one of Vetoquinol’s sponsored athlete and key opinion leader, John Swales of Millarville, Alberta, has become the first-ever Canadian to be named the World's Greatest Horseman at a major U.S. competition.
Swales and his horse, Heza Diamond Spark, came out on top of a competition featuring 35 athletes and their mounts at the latest National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Celebration of Champions in Forth Worth, Texas. In doing so, he also earned himself a tidy reward of $35,000 US in prize money.
Created in 1949, the NRCHA attracts the best cow horse athletes and mounts from throughout North America.
Riders competed in four events over a three day period, while using the same horse and bridle during each event.
The cowboy’s partner for this event, Heza Diamond Spark, was a working cow horse owned by Jesse and Elyse Thomson from Longview, Alberta.
